The Supreme Court of India and High Courts have got writ jurisdiction to issue writ or directions against the State or its instrumentalities to protect the ordinary legal rights and fundamental rights of the citizens of India. The jurisdiction of High Courts in respect of issuing Writs to State and instrumentalities is much wider than the writ jurisdiction of Supreme Court and High Court can issue Writs in the cases of infringement of any legal right or fundamental right but the Supreme Court has got the jurisdiction to issue Writ under Article 32 of the Constitution of India in the cases of infringement of fundamental right.
